Nikwax Cleaning Tips

FOR LEATHERS, BOOTS & GLOVES

Removing stubborn stains Apply Nikwax Leather Cleaner to the stain. Use a sponge or soft nylon brush to remove the stain

General cleaning tips

• Wet the surface of the leather under running water or with a wet cloth
• Remove surface dirt with a soft brush.
• Work on one panel or small area at a time. Apply the Leather Cleaner.
• Rub in well with sponge or soft nylon brush. Pay attention to dirty areas such as front, cuffs etc. Make sure you work the Leather Cleaner into pleats and gathered areas.
• Rinse off straight away under tap or with damp cloth.
• Apply the appropriate Nikwax Leather treatment:
• Leather Restorer for clothing.
• Aqueous Wax for boots and panniers.
• Glove Proof for gloves.

FOR TEXTILE GARMENTS

Removing stubborn stains
Apply Nikwax Loft Tech Wash undiluted to the stain. Use a sponge or soft nylon brush to remove the stain.

Clean in a washing machine or hand wash?
Cleaning a garment in a washing machine produces a more even and thorough result. Loft Tech Wash can however be used to hand wash garments in a bath or sink. Rinse the garment 3 times in clean water to remove all traces of soap before applying the waterproofing. Remember to remove the armour first if possible, no matter which method you use to wash your garment.

Why wash before waterproofing? Washing your garment in Loft Tech Wash before applying Nikwax TX.Direct Waterproofing will remove dirt, detergent residues and any other contaminants. It is not necessary to dry the garment before the waterproofing. After all, you wouldn't wax a dirty bike so don't waterproof a dirty garment.
Zips, Velcro and Fasteners Make sure all closures on the front, cuffs, ankles, pockets etc. are closed before washing. This will help prevent zips etc. snagging on fabrics.

What is the difference between Leather Restorer & Aqueous Wax?
Leather Restorer will soften, condition & waterproof whereas Aqueous Wax won't soften. Therefore Nikwax recommends Aqueous Wax for footwear

Will Glove Proof make my gloves slippery?
No. Glove Proof contains an ingredient which maintains grip.
